Last week I ran out of paper towels.
I needed them, I {heart} my paper towels!
I try to use them sparingly and earth-friendly and all but I need them sometimes. Like when I clean the glass top of my dining room table. Have you seen what that looks like with a sponge? It's gross.
Another day went by- and with it - my supply of cereal, bottled water, snacky items and hairspray. It was the weekend- who cares what my hair looks like anyway. Besides we were invited to my sisters for dinner on Saturday night - yay (thanks Mel- the enchiladas were awesome)
Time to start a new week and get back to work and school. No time for the store, I know we have stuff here. The freezer and cupboards have lots of stuff, food I buy all the time and we never eat it.
It made me realize that there are necessities (cheese, milk, apples) and then there are the necessary necessities (you know, toilet paper and soap).
Since I was only working up a list of necessities I decided to ride this out...
I sent Luke to school with a toasted bagel and cream cheese for lunch.
I also broke out the Brita and actually filled one of the kajillion sports bottles he has and sent him on his way. No worries.
I forgot I had some wheat-free waffles in the freezer! With some whipped cream in the fridge... Voila- dessert.
There has also been a few 'creative' dinners the last few nights, let's just leave it at that.
I'm glad to actually use this food. We buy it, we store it and it sits. I've fallen into a habit lately of making the same old things. I swear I could use the same grocery list for every trip... popcorn, milk, turkey, oranges, light string cheese, salsa...
I don't have meals planned for those items - I go to the store, I just grab, like a robot. I seem to replenish the same things and then we go thru those same things and then back to the store and buy the sa... you get it, right?
Don't you do the same thing?
I am now officially out of all things fresh
No milk, no cheese, no fruit, no cereal, water, paper plates, no produce, no crackers, cookies or juice and still no paper towels.
But... tonight I made dinner for my family:
Chicken & Vegetable pot stickers
Sauteed in teriyaki glaze with turkey bacon and onions
Served on Jasmine rice with steamed broccoli
(I got a 'cheers' at dinner for pulling this off tonight)
I could probably make a few more meals but my children want a bowl of Cheerios. Have you ever heard of anything so sad? Next they'll want shampoo... also on the list
